Horse Bronze Sculpture: Crossroads
This is a portrait bronze sculpture of a thoroughbred, made and cast in Spring 2024 at the UCSC foundry.
Originally sculpted in clay, the figure goes through several stages before becoming a finished bronze piece. Molds are made from the clay model, which allows to create a wax version. A ceramic shell is then built around the wax, which is later melted (lost), leaving the shell hollow. Molten bronze is poured into the shell. The bronze version is then cleaned, polished, and colored with patina.
